As if getting harrassed in streets by religious soul crusaders isn't bad enough, now Catholic missionaries are intent on infiltrating the heathen terrain of Second LIfe. Having endured a soul crushing Evangelical Christian upbringing, I find this trend particularly disturbing. I'd better buy my avatar a god-proof cloak asap, ha! I do happen to like Raven's dark cloak...quite tempting.
Black Narcissus dir. by Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger
I'd never thought of nuns as stylish and/or sexy until I saw Queen Marie's posting over at Kingdom of Style. These images have set my imagination aflame!
I have yet to see the film (it's now my new top item on my Netflix queue) so I will have to leave you with an Amazon.com description.
"Plagued by uncertainties and worldly desires, five Protestant
missionary nuns, led by Deborah Kerr's Sister Clodagh, struggle to
establish a school in the desolate Himalayas. All the elements of
cinematic arts are perfectly fused in Powell and Pressburger's
fascinating study of the age-old conflict between the spirit and the
flesh, set against the grandeur of the snowcapped peaks of
Kanchenjunga."
It won Oscars for its cinematography (Jack Cardiff) and for it art direction (Alfred
Are you the new Jesus Christ? It seems that Eugenio Recuenco is 'casting' for Jesus types.
An exerpt from this must-see video clip:
"... Jesus Christ is still missing. We have been looking for him for the last two thousand years, but we couldn't find [sic] him. Too much [sic] people come to the news asking for a new Jesus Christ.
We need a new Jesus Christ. As you can see, he looks dumb, skinny, poor, long hair.
Please, if you look like him or if you know anyone that [sic] looks like him, send a picture to the email address [that] will appear on the screen. Thank you from the Midnight Frosker News."
I re-listened to it several times to see if he says "long" or "blonde" hair, but I'm still unsure so I just put "long." If anyone thinks differently, let me know.
Here's the text explaining the project on noovo's blog post. Forgive me if I've misunderstood it; I don't speak Spanish so I've used my Italian to get an overall impression.
"Eugenio Recuenco busca Jesucristos
Eugenio recuenco es un fotógrafo español que es un pesado porque
siempre se empeña en hacer lo que él quiere. Ahora parece ser que busca

I believe that these are all shot by Eugenio Recuenco, whom I've mentioned earlier. I love his work and often it reminds me of Gregory Crewdson in its lush cinematic mute narratives. If there were to be sound, I'd have the Pan's Labyrinth soundtrack (currently on my Myspace page).
